Check out the great present Raina got me!

A fully posable toy of Cybert from Astronaut Elementary!
It was handmade by the ultra-talented Megan Baehr, whose website is friedwontons.com . Megan totally takes commissions for her beautifully made plush toys and will be showing them off (along with her comics) at the MoCCA art fest this weekend! She also has an etsy shop.
Thanks Raina! And thanks Megan! |

| don't stop believing! |
[Jan. 7th, 2009|02:11 am] |
From this week's page of Astronaut Elementary.

I'm hoping that Livejournal can weather the storm of their Russian overtaking and recent downsizing.
If LJ does go Kerplunk or Kerplooey then I'll certainly start updating the blog on my website more often: www.yaytime.com
You can also find me on Twitter and Facebook but I'm not as big a fan of those sites because I like posting pictures and following people who post art on a regular basis. That's why I also have a DeviantArt page! |

| New AE, and a Christmas confession |
[Dec. 16th, 2008|08:30 pm] |
From this week's page of Astronaut Elementary.
The story is inspired by a high school crush on a girl I thought was cute because she was so snarky!
---
Recent proof that I'm one of the biggest geeks alive:
I was walking in Times Square and raised my fist and screamed "YEAH!" when I saw a clip of Rudolf's Shiny New Year on a jumbo screen.
Because I love Christmas, and I love Rankin/Bass and ALL their specials. Even the really ridiculous ones where Rudolf has time travel adventures with a giant whale.

| new page new character |
[Dec. 8th, 2008|02:13 pm] |
This week's page of Astronaut Elementary introduces a new character named Marcos Stamatis.
.
Random notes and pop culture experiences:
If you ever get the chance to see Squirrel Nut Zippers perform live. DO SO! Raina and I went to see them at Southpaw in Brooklyn, which is one of the most intimate places to see a band up close. Some of my favorite shows have been there. The SNZ only recently reunited and they seemed as tight as ever. I loved every second of it.
I also saw Nada Surf at the Bowery Ballroom and that was a surprisingly rocking show as well. A lot of their newer CDs tend to be on the atmospheric, moodier side; but they definitely bring the heavy guitar energy to the live show. I went from being a casual fan to an enthusiastic one. They also have a beautifully designed website. |

| Billy and Maribelle |
[Nov. 24th, 2008|01:10 pm] |
This week's page of Astronaut Elementarywraps up the Billy Lee storyline.
. Next week is a revised repeat and then a new story feature a brand new character.
Last night I watched and enjoyed Origin: Spirits of the Past from Studio GONZO. It's about people with "tree powers" and has some really amazing world building visuals. |

| back to class |
[Aug. 22nd, 2008|03:13 pm] |

I forgot to mention last week that I'm back to updating a page of ASTRONAUT ELEMENTARY every Friday.
Currently it's another flashback story that documents Hakata's first day of math class and how he meets Miyumi. |

| changes! |
[Jul. 2nd, 2008|10:51 am] |
As I've mentioned, I've been completely reworking and expanding Hakata Soy's introduction to Astronaut Elementary. This week's page really shows how different the new pages are from the original version!

| back to school |
[May. 22nd, 2008|12:47 am] |
I've finally started updating Astronaut Elementary again!

The pages currently being serialized act as an extended opening sequence to the entire story. Originally, Hakata was introduced in a simple 2-page comic, but I've gone back and expanded it to 15 pages to better establish the school environment and introduce readers to the world. These new pages also have cold graytones to add to the overall space-iness . Best of all (as far as my wrist is concerned), it's all lettered with my new custom font which was made by Mr. crypticpress! |

| What's old is new! |
[Nov. 5th, 2007|10:50 am] |
In an effort to make the beginning of Astronaut Elementary more consistent with the current pages, I've completely redrawn the welcome/intro chapter, expanding it from 2 to 5 pages. When I originally did the intro, I tried to cram as much onto a page as possible. But now I see the value of having breath room! So hopefully it will be less of an intimidating to new readers.
I also added graytones to the chapter and a couple of new "bits of business" including a new class that will have a lot to do with the overall story arch. Hopefully this will all be seen as an improvement and not a waste of time!
I'll be taking down the original version next week, so this is your last chance to compare the two (unless of course you have a mini-comic. Because print last forever!)

Here's some of the specific changes...

The Principal has gotten taller because I realized in these early pages he looked too much like one of the students! |
